How GPS Works on a Mobile
Long time ago, GPS
is only available to the military. These days, we have seen GPS system that
works in a car. GPS system for car is nothing like the GPS on your mobile
phone. The question is how GPS works on a mobile phone. The world is being
buzzed with the importance of GPS on your mobile phone but do you know how it
works? Since you have to pay for GPS on your mobile phone, you should be clear
about its functionality.
We need to use the satellite in order for a GPS mobile phone to function properly. If you are using a compass, you are using bearings to find your position. However, GPS is using trilateration or also known as distances to find your position. Satellites will send special signals to your GPS receiver and the signals will be translated to determine the time that the satellites send the signals and the location of the satellites. Usually three satellites will provide the intersection points and the fourth satellite is usually to make sure that the positioning is correct.
When you use a GPS system, the main reason is usually to navigate on
the road. Sure you might have known your ways around the city but what happened
if you are venturing into a new city? GPS comes in handy in situation like this.
However, when you use GPS on mobile phones, you can track the location of other mobile phones apart from downloading maps for navigation on the road. Since GPS enabled mobile phones have pre-installed the GPS system, you are getting two gadgets for one price. GPS on mobile phone is really cool and you don't even have to spend a lot of money to use it although it was once very expensive for common users like us. Overall, it is worth buying a mobile phone with GPS if you love to keep up with technology.
